Dharmanagar, Tripura, 3rd of July 2026 : A fire broke out in an electrical transformer near Padmapur Club in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, at around 9:00 PM on Friday (3rd July, 2026) amid an intense heatwave, triggering panic among local residents over the possibility of a prolonged power outage. Upon receiving information from local residents, the Dharmanagar Fire and Emergency Services Department immediately dispatched a fire tender to the spot. However, firefighters encountered several obstacles while trying to reach the location.

According to a fire department official, the road leading to Padmapur is already narrow, and the situation was worsened by numerous vehicles illegally parked on both sides of the road. In addition, stray cattle occupying a portion of the roadway further obstructed the movement of the fire engine, resulting in a delay in reaching the site.
Fire officials stated that illegal parking and the unrestricted movement of cattle on public roads pose serious challenges during emergencies. They alleged that although these issues have been brought to the attention of the concerned authorities on several occasions, effective corrective measures have yet to be taken. A section of local residents also alleged that the city’s traffic management has largely been limited to helmet checks and issuing traffic challans, while little visible action has been taken to control illegal parking on key roads.
Residents further claimed that despite repeated complaints to the Dharmanagar Municipal Council, no significant steps have been taken to remove stray cattle from city roads. The fire was eventually brought under control by the firefighters, preventing what could have become a major accident. However, residents expressed disappointment that no officials from the electricity department arrived at the scene for a considerable period after the incident, raising concerns over the department’s emergency response.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the efficiency of emergency services, traffic regulation, illegal parking, stray cattle management, and the lack of coordination among various government departments in Dharmanagar. Citizens have urged the authorities to adopt a coordinated and proactive approach to prevent similar incidents in the future, warning that failure to act could lead to more serious consequences.
