Dharmanagar, Tripura, 11th of July 2026 : Fresh allegations of serious irregularities have surfaced against the Blood Bank at Dharmanagar District Hospital in North Tripura. While the hospital has faced repeated accusations of mismanagement in the past, this latest incident has raised concerns over patient safety after a local resident alleged he faced severe difficulties while trying to obtain blood for his critically ill mother.

According to the complaint, Raj Chowdhury, a resident of Dharmanagar, said his mother was admitted in critical condition to a private healthcare facility and urgently required A Positive blood as advised by doctors. He approached the Blood Bank at Dharmanagar District Hospital to obtain the required blood. Raj alleged that upon reaching the Blood Bank, he was met with uncooperative behavior and rude treatment from the staff on duty. After considerable requests and discussions, he was finally able to collect the blood. However, when he reached the private hospital with the necessary documents, he discovered that the paperwork mentioned B Positive instead of A Positive.

Realizing the discrepancy, he immediately returned to the Blood Bank at Dharmanagar District Hospital. According to his allegation, the Blood Bank counter was closed when he arrived. After waiting for a long time, he contacted the concerned staff member by phone, who reportedly informed him that he was elsewhere and asked Raj to come there instead.Raj further alleged that when he explained the seriousness of the issue, the staff member casually responded, “Correct it yourselves—just write A Positive instead of B Positive.”

The remark left him shocked and outraged. He stated that such negligence in matters related to blood groups could be extremely dangerous for a critically ill patient and reflects gross irresponsibility. The incident has triggered strong public reaction in the area. Many residents have alleged that the Blood Bank at Dharmanagar District Hospital has long been plagued by problems such as delays in providing blood, poor service management, and complaints regarding staff behaviour. Local residents have demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter and strict action against anyone found responsible. They have also urged the Tripura government to intervene immediately to ensure that such incidents are not repeated and that patient safety is not compromised.
