Khowai, Tripura, 11th of July, 2026 : The Tribal Hostel at Srinath Vidyaniketan School in Khowai has come under scrutiny following complaints about food management and the quality of services provided to resident students. The allegations relate to the standard of facilities and the management of meals meant for the hostel inmates, raising concerns over the welfare and living conditions of the students.

According to the allegations, the hostel students have been living with various difficulties for a long time. The resident students claim that they are not being provided with regular and nutritious meals as mandated. They further allege that the food served does not follow the prescribed menu displayed at the hostel and that the overall quality of the meals is extremely poor.
The students have also accused Hostel Superintendent Prafulla Debbarma of failing to properly monitor food services and other essential facilities meant for the welfare of the hostel residents.
The complaints extend beyond food management, with resident students also raising concerns over the cleanliness and overall hygiene of the hostel premises. A teacher of the school stated that around 140 students are currently enrolled at the institution, of whom nearly 36 reside in the hostel after coming from remote areas.

When journalists visited the school seeking clarification, Headmaster Bikramjit Debbarma said he was not aware of the allegations. Meanwhile, local sources have alleged that a school teacher, Ananta Roy, is involved in the procurement of grocery supplies for the hostel. However, no official response has been received from the concerned individuals regarding these allegations.
The complainants have alleged that the tribal students residing in the hostel are being deprived of the nutritious food and other facilities they are entitled to receive. They have demanded an impartial inquiry into the matter to ascertain the actual situation and ensure that necessary corrective measures are taken. They also urged the authorities to take necessary legal action against those found responsible if the investigation reveals any irregularities or misconduct.
