Dharmanagar, Tripura, 12th of July 2026 : The 10th Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Conference of the Tripura Tea Workers’ Union (TTWU) was held on Sunday (12th July, 2026) in a festive atmosphere at the Brajendranagar Satsangam Community Hall in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.

A large number of worker representatives from various tea gardens across the subdivision participated in the conference, which was organized on the Faijur Rahman, Birsa Munda and Atul Tanti stage.The conference began with the hoisting of the union flag by Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Uma Gour. Ranjit Lohar paid tribute to the martyrs, while Sukhi Teli presented the condolence resolution. The main delegate session was then conducted under a five-member presidium comprising Makhan Lal Pal, Uma Gour, Dhaneswar Nayek, Subal Chasha and Ranjit Telenga.The conference was formally inaugurated by Amitabh Dutta, Vice-President of the CITU State Committee. Makhan Lal Pal presented the organizational report, reviewing the union’s activities over the past term and outlining its future course of action.
A total of 157 delegates from seven tea gardens in the subdivision attended the conference. During the discussion on the report, ten delegates representing the seven tea gardens shared their views, suggestions and observations.Addressing the gathering as a guest, Abhijit Dey, North Tripura District Secretary of CPI(M), spoke on the rights of tea workers, the current state of the labour movement and the prevailing political situation.
The chief guest was Paresh Paik, State Secretary of the Tripura Tea Workers’ Union.CPI(M) Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Ratan Roy and CITU Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Jahurul Haque also addressed the conference, calling for a stronger and more united movement to safeguard the interests of tea workers.In the concluding session, a new 31-member Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Committee and a 9-member Secretariat were unanimously elected. Dhaneswar Nayek was elected President, while Amal Tanti was elected Secretary of the newly formed committee.The conference expressed confidence that under the new leadership, the movement for securing the rights and welfare of tea workers would become more organized and stronger in the coming days.
