Central And State Government Are Deeply Committed To The Welfare And Empowerment Of Divyangjans : Governor Of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu.

Agartala, Tripura, 20th July, 2026 : Tripura is a state of immense potential and resilience and it working towards building a “Viksit Tripura” by 2047, in line with the vision of the Prime Minister. But progress must be measured by how effectively the most vulnerable sections of society are empowered. Hon’ble Governor of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu said this while inaugurating Antareep 1.0, a charity fundraising event for the welfare of Divyangjan, at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan Hall No. 1 in Agartala on Sunday (19th July, 2026). Organized by The Smile Foundation, the event aimed to raise funds for the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan).

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that “Our Divyangjan are our strength, not a burden,” adding that both the Central and State Government are deeply committed to their welfare and empowerment. Highlighting the Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)-2024, Governor described it as a landmark policy that envisions creating an enabling environment where persons with disabilities can become equal partners in every sphere of life. He emphasized that the government is shifting from a welfare-based approach to a rights-based approach, ensuring dignity, equal opportunities, accessibility, and inclusivity.

The Governor said the government has taken several significant initiatives to translate this vision into reality. These include the issuance of Unique Disability Identity (UDID) cards to ensure that every eligible person receives the benefits to which they are entitled, the provision of monthly social allowances for Divyangjan to strengthen their financial security, and the identification of persons with intellectual disabilities for specialized pension benefits.

Appreciating the contribution of voluntary organizations, the Governor acknowledged the remarkable work being carried out by NGOs across Tripura for the welfare of Divyangjan. He noted that several organizations are conducting medical camps for children with disabilities, functioning as State Nodal Agencies under the National Trust, and providing scholarships, rehabilitation services, and shelter homes. Their contributions, he said, are invaluable in creating a more inclusive society.

The Governor appreciated The Smile Foundation for organizing Antareep 1.0 and emphasized that collective social responsibility is essential for the welfare, empowerment, and inclusion of Divyangjan. He urged citizens, institutions, and organizations to continue supporting such humanitarian initiatives.

The programme was also attended by Kalyani Roy, MLA and Chief Whip of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. Speaking on the occasion, she lauded the initiative and stressed the need for greater public participation in supporting persons with disabilities through inclusive and compassionate efforts.

The welcome address was delivered by Puspita Das, Member of The Smile Foundation, She highlighted the objectives of Antareep 1.0 and expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful organization of the event. On the occasion, the Governor felicitated the families of Indian Army martyrs Shaheed Sanjay Debnath, Shaheed Prassanta Deb, and Shaheed Subhankar Bhowmik in recognition of their supreme sacrifice for the nation. He also honoured brave retired Armed Forces personnel Tilak Thakuri for his dedicated service to the country. Bipasha Hrangkhawl, Tripura’s first Air Traffic Controller, was also felicitated for her outstanding achievement and for bringing pride to the state. The event concluded with cultural performances and witnessed the participation of distinguished guests, social workers, volunteers, and members of the public, reaffirming the collective commitment towards building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
