Sabroom, Tripura, 24th of July 2026 : A sense of concern spread across the area after 42-year-old GRS worker Biplab Deb was found seriously injured under mysterious circumstances in Ward No. 1 of West Jolaibari, Sabroom subdivision of South Tripura, at around 9:10 PM on Wednesday (22nd July, 2026).

Local residents spotted him lying injured on the roadside and immediately alerted the Sabroom Fire Services. Fire Services personnel reached the spot, rescued the injured Biplab Deb, and rushed him to Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical treatment.

After receiving primary treatment at Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital, doctors referred Biplab Deb to Santir Bazar District Hospital in critical condition for advanced medical care as his health deteriorated.

According to local sources, Biplab Deb is a resident of West Jolaibari. At the time of the incident, he had reportedly dropped off his daughter at a nearby event venue and was returning home when the accident occurred. Although the exact cause of the incident remains unclear, there is widespread speculation in the area that he was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding auto-rickshaw. However, this claim has not yet been officially confirmed by the police or any government authority.

After being informed about the incident, Sabroom Police Station officials visited the hospital, took stock of the injured person’s condition, and launched an investigation into the matter. The police are probing how the accident occurred and whether any other vehicle was involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, the incident has once again brought to the forefront allegations of reckless vehicle movement in Sabroom. Local residents claim that vehicles have been operating at high speed in the area for a long time without following traffic rules.

A few years ago, a professor of Sabroom College lost her life in a road accident at the same location. Recently, the court also announced the punishment of the accused in that case. However, despite such measures, residents allege that there has been little change in the situation.

In the wake of the incident, members of civil society have called for swift and effective action to prevent similar tragedies. They stressed the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules, better speed regulation in accident-prone areas, and enhanced road safety measures to protect commuters and pedestrians.

They have also urged the Motor Vehicles Department to launch a special drive against passenger vehicles operating without valid permits. Local residents hope that a thorough investigation into the incident will uncover the actual cause and that the administration will take effective measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
