Dharmanagar, Tripura, 24th of July 2026 : The Dharmanagar District Congress on Thursday (23rd July, 2026) staged a road blockade and civil disobedience protest at Kalikapur in North Tripura, demanding the immediate repair of the alternative National Highway. The blockade disrupted traffic on the highway for a prolonged period, causing severe congestion.Despite repeated requests from the police and district administration to withdraw the blockade, the protesters refused. To maintain law and order, police intervened and detained several Congress leaders and workers.

They were later released in accordance with legal procedures.Congress leaders alleged that the state’s roads, education, and healthcare systems have deteriorated significantly. They claimed that the recently constructed alternative National Highway at Kalikapur has already fallen into a poor condition, causing immense hardship to commuters. The party also alleged misuse of funds allocated for the road construction.A Deputy Collector and Magistrate present at the site said that the administration repeatedly appealed to the protesters to lift the blockade in order to reduce public inconvenience.
However, when they refused, the protesters were detained under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The Congress stated that despite the administration’s assurances, it would continue its agitation until the road is repaired.
