Dharmanagar, Tripura, 8th of August, 2026 : Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty visited the old fish market in the town to inspect the ongoing reconstruction work and review future development plans on Friday (7th August). He was accompanied by Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairperson Mitali Das Sen, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Debjani Choudhury, along with other administrative officials and dignitaries.
During the inspection, the team reviewed the progress of construction, discussed infrastructure development plans, and examined the facilities that will be provided for local fish vendors. Officials stated that the project aims to develop a modern and well-organized fish market equipped with improved amenities.Recently, concerns had been raised by some traders that shops in the new market might be allotted to outsiders.
Addressing the issue, SDM Debjani Choudhury clarified that no such decision has been taken. She stated, “Priority will be given to those who have been conducting business in this market for a long time. No new outsider will be allotted a shop.”The administration’s assurance brought relief to the traders present. Public representatives and officials also expressed confidence that the construction work would be completed at the earliest, allowing the new market with modern infrastructure and better facilities to become operational soon.
