Sepahijala, Tripura, 13th of January, 2026 : On the basis of secret information Sepahijala District Police, in joint operations with BSF, TSR battalions, Forest officials and other agencies, carried out a massive crackdown on illicit Ganja (cannabis) cultivation on Wednesday (12th August, 2026) from the morning 8:20 am at various locations of the district.
A large-scale destruction operation was conducted under Sonamura Police Station leading by Inspector Tapas Das, Officer-In-Charge of Sonamura Police Station covering searched at Dhanirampur ADC village and Bijoynagar ADC village area & Batadola area, in forest land with active support from Sonamura PS, 81 BN BSF and 11th BN TSR and other sister agencies.
According to Sonamura Police a total uprooting approximately total 27 nos Ganja seed beds where found approx 8 lakh ganja sampling & destroy on spot after observing all legal formalities. The destination market value of the seized ganja is approx – one crore four lakh.
And also found approx 20 kg,s Ganja Seeds & approx 200 Kg,s dry leaves of cannabis accordingly destroy on spot after observing all legal formalities.
Interacted with media Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge Sonamura Police Station gave details about this matter. OC also stated that such operations against illegal contrabands would continue next day.
