Agartala, Tripura, 16th of August 2026 : With the initiative of State Government of Tripura organized State Level 80th Independence Day Celebration in collaboration with Information and Cultural Affairs Department Government of Tripura at Assam Rifles Ground, Agartala, Tripura on Saturday (15th August, 2026).

Through a people-friendly governance the state government is working for creating economic opportunities and improving quality of life for the people. Due to Good Governance practices, transparent and efficient administrations, Tripura State has secured more than 360 national and regional awards in the last eight years. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated this today while addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Assam Rifles ground.
The Chief Minister said, this day is a symbol of our shared struggle, our unity, and our collective aspirations for ‘Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat.’ 12 Years of Government led by Modiji has created an ‘Aspirational India’ with the motto of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas.’ The Central government carried out several flagship initiatives for the welfare and empowerment of the poor, farmers, women and youth. Towards this direction our State Tripura has also achieved remarkabłe progress in every field. Tripura State has made remarkable strides across all sectors, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth.

State Government has emphasized on creating economic opportunities and improving quality of life for 40 lakh people of the State. We have doubled the State GDP in just six years and presently our per capita income is at par with the country. In the country Tripura is the only state where e-office has been introduced from the top level to the Panchayat level of the administration. Tripura has secured first rank in the country successively for last two years under the Compliance Reduction and Deregulation exercise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Tripura State for this stupendous achievement Due to Ease of Doing Business reforms, the state has received huge response during the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, which attracted investors from across the globe. State Government has signed 468 MoUs with investment proposals worth 1.32 Lakh Crore across all major sectors.
Sepahijala Zilla Parishad has been declared as the Best District Panchayat in the country under Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat of Unakoti District is declared the Best Healthy Panchayat in entire country under Deen Dayal Upadhayay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. Tripura has been recognized as the third 100 per cent literate state with the achievement of more than 95 per cent literacy. Tripura’s daughter Asmita Dey made the country and the state proud by winning India’s first ever Gold Medal in Judo at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Financial assistance under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi has been credited directly to the accounts of 2.30 lakh farmers during the past year. Under the Kişan Credit Card Scheme, Rs. 438 crore loan was disbursed to the 56,600 farmers. Under Mukhyamantri Prani Sampad Bikash Yojana, 30,414 beneficiaries have received assistance, while 5,000 farmers were honoured under the Prani Palak Samman Nidhi Towards ensuring their financial security of animal rearers 21,311 animals have been brought under insurance. To ensure socio-economic security of the fish farmers and fishermen Group Accident Insurance Scheme benefits have been provided to more than 1,10,659 fishermen. Agar International Trade and Research Centre (AITRC) and Integrated Agarwood Cluster at Kadamtala are being set up to strengthen Tripura’s position in the global Agarwood market.
Various initiatives have been taken for the promotion and growth of tourism sector of the state. Construction of replica of 51 Shakti Peethas is under progress at Banduar, Udaipur. Major tourist destinations including Kasba Kalibari, Chaturdash Devta Temple, Sonamukhi, Kailashahar, Chabimura, Amarsagar and Fatiksagar are being developed through ADB assistance. Development of a 100-bed Taj Hotel at Pushpabanta Palace, Agartala is under progress. Under Matabari Tourism Circuit, development of Amarsagar Dighi, two islands of Dumbur Lake, water-based tourism facilities, Kalyan Sagar development, multi-level parking facilities at Matabari, etc. are being developed.

Tripura is making significant strides in expanding medical education, healthcare infrastructure, and specialized medical services. Establishment of Tripura University of Health Sciences is progressing well for proper monitoring of the functioning of institutes in Medical and Allied Health sector. Nine successful kidney transplants have been performed so far. Construction work of new Hospitals has commenced for Khowai and Sepahijala districts, Jirania, Mohanpur and Udaipur Sub Divisional Hospitals. State of the Art Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital has been made at Jackson Gate, Agartala with provision of evening OPD. Evening OPD facilities have also been started in this hospital.
Under the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) Cashless treatment has been provided to more 5.70 lakh beneficiaries and claims of Rs. 307 crore has been settled. Initiative has been taken to start functioning of Tripura Government Homoeopathic Medical College and Netaji Subhas Homeopathic Hospital at Agartala and Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College at Udaipur shall start commencement from 2026-27 academic year. A total of 125 Vidyajyoti Schools in the state are successfully functioning as hubs of excellence, raising the competitiveness of government schools. A total of 1,64,309 bicycles have been distributed to Class IX girl students. Study has commenced at the Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College from the 2026-27 session. Tripura Government Women’s University is being established through the upgradation of Women’s College. More than 12,000 youth have completed training under Mukhya Mantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa out of which 2,200 have been provided with jobs. About 4,96,000 rural women have been mobilized into 55,693 Self Help Groups. To strengthen livelihoods and financial inclusion, community funds amounting to Rs. 837 crore and bank credit worth twenty four hundred Rs. 2,400 crore has been provided to the Self Help Groups.

To strengthen the startup ecosystem, T-NEST (Tripura Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Startups) has been established at Hapania. In order to attract investment in the IT, ITeS, and data centre sectors Tripura IT and Data Ecosystem Zone (TIDEZ) and IT Park is being set up. The State secured the 1st rank among North-Eastern and Himalayan States under AMRUT 2.0 for its achievements in urban water infrastructure development. With the objective of increasing power production and strengthening the power distribution system Rokhia Power Plant is being upgraded into a 120 MW combined-cycle plant. Solar power is being harnessed for electrification of remote tribal households, rooftop solar systems under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and solar irrigation pumps.
Preparatory activities for four laning of Agartala -Churabari and Agartala Udaipur national highways are ongoing. Out of cultivable area of 2,55,000 hectares, irrigation facilities are extended to 1,24,000 hectares. During last year, additional 1,484 hectares of cultivable land has been added under assured irrigation. Drinking water facilities have been provided to 6.49 lakh rural households in the State. In order to ensure reasonable price of paddy, during the last year, 52, 238 metric tonnes of paddy were procured from the farmers. Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana 1.57 lakh metric tonnes of rice were distributed free of cost.
Last year, Tripura State has recorded about 10% decline in major crimes. Under the Nesha Mukt Abhiyan, intensive anti-narcotics operations have led to the record seizures. Through the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), the Police have maintained an average response time of 8 minutes in Agartala and 14 minutes in other areas. Major sports infrastructure developments include synthetic football turf at Udaipur, an indoor hall at Dharmanagar, an indoor hall at Teliamura, a basketball court at NSRCC Agartala, a tennis court at Khowai, and installation of 20 open gyms across the State. The state has successfully organized the 3rd Para Games to encourage and showcase the talents of differently abled sportspersons.

Under the historic Quadripartite Agreement, 6,935 Bru families have been resettled across 12 locations in four districts. About six thousand youth from Bru families have been provided with the skill training. To support higher and professional education, one-time financial assistance of Rupees fifty thousand Rs. 50,000 has been provided to 929 Scheduled Caste students. 100 ST hostels have been equipped with Smart Class facilities, and 12 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSS) are currently operational in the State. Under the Jhum Chas Sahajya Prakalpa, assistance was provided to more than 6,700 hardcore Jhumia families. The Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission has benefited twenty nine thousand 29,000 families. Under the PM-JANMAN program, provision of pucca houses for seventeen thousand 17000 households, electrification of over eleven thousand 11,000 households, setting up 30 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, 226 Anganwadi centres, 32 hostels, and road and mobile connectivity to remote habitations has been taken up.
102 Anganwadi Centres have been upgraded into English Medium Model Anganwadi Centres to strengthen early childhood education. Construction of 10 Working Women Hostels is underway, while four Sakhi Niwas hostels have been operationalised. Social security coverage has also been expanded to more than 3.87 lakh beneficiaries.

The achievements ranging from strengthening agriculture and industry, transforming health and education, empowering women and youth, to advancing infrastructure and environmental protection, reflect as expression of our commitment towards building “Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura.”
As part of the state level programme held at the Assam Rifles Ground, total 16 platoons in security and non-security categories participated in the parade. The participating teams included BSF, Assam Rifles, CRPF, Mizoram State Police (male), TSR 14 no. battalion (male) and 15 no. battalion (female), West Tripura Police (male), traffic police (male). Home Gaurds (male), NCC Boys and Girls, Scouts and Guides (Boys and Girls), NSS Civil Defence and Assam Rifles Public School. On the basis of their performance platoons were given prizes. Under the security category BSF platoon achieved the first rank. The second rank was held by Assam Rifles platoon and the third rank was held by West Tripura District Police platoon. Under the non-security category, Assam Rifles Public School secured the first position, the second position was held by the NCC Girls platoon and the third position was held by Civil Defence platoon. The Chief Minister handed over prizes to the winning teams. Besides, colourful cultural programmes were presented by the ICA department, education department, TTAADC and youth affairs and sports department.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Hon’ble MP Kriti Debi Singh Debbarman, acting Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad Biswajit Shil, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, acting DGP G.S Rao and top officials of various departments and many other distinguished dignitaries were present in the celebration ceremony.
