Sabroom, Tripura, 16th of August, 2026 : The local political situation in Kalachara has become tense following allegations that a group of miscreants entered a man’s house, went on a rampage, assaulted family members, and allegedly molested a woman. Standing by the affected family, Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly Jitendra Chaudhury strongly condemned the incident and expressed deep concern over the alleged attack.
About the incident, Jitendra Chaudhury alleged that the attack was carried out deliberately by miscreants allegedly backed by the ruling BJP. He claimed that the miscreants initially tried to enter the house by breaking the main gate but failed. They later broke through a smaller gate, entered the premises, and allegedly attacked the homeowner, Mrinal Sen, and his son. When Mrinal Sen and his wife tried to intervene, the woman was allegedly molested and both were physically assaulted. The alleged attackers fled the spot after neighbours arrived.

The administration and the ruling party directly responsible, the Opposition Leader said, “Since 2018, a group of influential figures backed by the BJP has emerged in Kailashahar. Government property is allegedly being looted, community halls are being occupied, and illegal activities are being carried out in hospitals, while local panchayats are allegedly being exploited. For the past eight and a half years, an atmosphere of lawlessness has been created in the area.”
He also said that after the incident came to light and gained attention on social media, the Chief Minister stated that “the law will take its own course” and reiterated a “zero-tolerance” policy. However, Chaudhury alleged that the ground reality was different. Taking a dig at the government, Jitendra Chaudhury said, “Whenever the presence of BJP-backed miscreants is detected, the Chief Minister’s zero-tolerance policy turns into a shield to protect the BJP.”

Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury demanded the immediate arrest and strict punishment of those allegedly involved in the incident. He also warned that if the accused are not punished, the opposition will launch a strong movement with the people of Kailashahar. He further stated that the opposition is prepared to mobilize the general public and build a united resistance against such incidents
