Khowai, Tripura, 16th of August, 2026 : Another theft incident was reported in Khowai town on Saturday night, (15th August, 2026) after a group of thieves allegedly broke into a shop located in the area near the Co-operative Bank.
According to reports, the incident took place in the area adjacent to the Co-operative Bank in Khowai town. Liton Ghosh, the shop owner, closed his shop as usual at night and returned home. When he arrived at the shop in the morning, he found that thieves had broken the lock of the cash box and stolen ₹2,200. He also stated that the thieves had taken away some other items from the shop.

Despite the shop being located in the heart of Khowai town and just around 200 metres from the police outpost, a group of thieves broke the shop’s lock and carried out the theft. The incident has raised several questions among the residents of Khowai town. If thieves can carry out such an audacious theft in the middle of the town, questions are being raised about the security arrangements in rural areas.

With theft incidents occurring at regular intervals, questions are being raised over the effectiveness of security measures in Khowai town. The residents are now looking forward to stronger action from the police and administration in the days ahead.
