Illegal Liquor Shop Near District Hospital, Angry Women Vandalize Premises.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 24th of August, 2026 : An incident of alleged illegal sale of country liquor just around 50 metres from the District Hospital triggered strong resentment among local women on Sunday (23rd August, 2026) morning. At around 9 a.m., members of a women’s group reportedly reached the shop and found liquor and other items being sold there.The agitated women allegedly removed liquor and other materials from the shop and threw them onto the road before vandalizing the premises.According to local residents, illegal liquor business has allegedly been operating in the area near the hospital for a long time, raising questions about administrative monitoring. Residents have questioned how such a business could continue so close to an important government healthcare facility.

They alleged that the liquor trade had been creating an increasingly uncomfortable environment in the locality. The presence of such establishments was also reportedly causing a sense of insecurity among children, students, women and elderly people using the road.Apart from the liquor business, allegations have also surfaced that some of these shops were constructed by encroaching upon government land. As a result, questions have been raised over both the alleged illegal liquor trade and the alleged encroachment of government property near the hospital.

Although tension briefly prevailed in the area following the incident, the situation is currently reported to be under control. Residents have demanded strict and permanent action against illegal liquor activities in the vicinity of the District Hospital, stating that merely conducting occasional raids will not be sufficient.
