Khowai, Tripura, 30th of August, 2026 : Counter Press Conference Within 24 Hours! In the cement controversy, Nirmal Biswas raises explosive questions over the inquiry committee: “Was the investigation completed while sitting at home?”
Political tensions have intensified in Khowai over allegations of cement theft against Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Tinku Bhattacharjee. Just 24 hours after the BJP’s press conference, CPI(M) MLA Nirmal Biswas held a counter press conference and raised several questions. At a press conference organised at the CPI(M) Khowai District Office at around 3 PM on Sunday (30th August, 2026), he questioned the investigation procedure, the neutrality of the inquiry committee, and whether the driver of the vehicle involved in transporting the cement had been questioned.
CPI(M) MLA Nirmal Biswas stated that three days have already passed since the CPI(M)’s press conference. Although an inquiry committee was subsequently formed, it was asked to submit its report within just one day. He questioned how a fair, impartial and comprehensive investigation into such a serious allegation could possibly be completed within a single day.

Raising a more serious concern, he said that all the members of the inquiry committee are employees under Khowai Block. He questioned how impartial the investigation could be when employees of the same block are conducting an inquiry against the Panchayat Samiti Chairperson under whose jurisdiction the allegations have been raised. Nirmal Biswas said, “Block employees will investigate the Chairperson! This is indeed a strange situation. Who would dare to take such a step?”
The CPI(M) MLA also questioned whether the driver of the vehicle allegedly involved in transporting the cement had been brought under the scope of the investigation and interrogated. He claimed that the driver had not been called for questioning. He asked how crucial questions—such as where the cement was being transported from and to, under whose instructions, and who was involved in the entire incident—could be answered without questioning the driver.
He also made explosive remarks regarding the inquiry committee’s report. He alleged, “This inquiry committee has been formed entirely while sitting at home, mainly to prove the allegations false.” However, these are political allegations made by the MLA, and their veracity will only become clear through an impartial investigation.
Nirmal Biswas claimed that the cement-related allegation was not initially raised by the CPI(M). According to him, the complaint first came from local residents, who had reportedly brought the matter to the notice of various political functionaries in writing.
The CPI(M) MLA also raised another important question: why was the cement stored at a different location despite the site being located just a short distance from Khowai Block? He demanded that details regarding where the cement allocated for government works is being stored, how it is being transported, and the records of the cement stock be made public.
The MLA said that the matter is no longer confined to allegations and counter-allegations between political parties. According to him, the people of Khowai are also seeking answers regarding the incident. He further claimed that even many members of the ruling party understand the seriousness of the issue.
Thus, with the allegations and explanations presented at the BJP’s press conference, followed by the CPI(M) MLA’s counter press conference just 24 hours later, political tensions over the Khowai cement controversy are steadily escalating.
CPI(M) youth leader Palash Bhowmik, along with other party leaders and workers, was present at the press conference.
