Dharmanagar, Tripura, 5th of September, 2026 : At an age when a person is expected to live safely under the care and protection of his children, an 81-year-old man has allegedly been assaulted by members of his own family. Chittaranjan Nath, a resident of Ward No. 6 of Sarsapur, is currently undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar District Hospital with multiple injuries to his body. The assault is alleged to have stemmed from a property dispute.
According to Chittaranjan Nath, he was allegedly attacked with sticks on Saturday afternoon by three grandchildren from his son’s family—two granddaughters and a grandson. He was initially taken to Kadamtala Primary Health Centre in an injured condition and was later referred to Dharmanagar District Hospital at around 6 p.m.Lying on his hospital bed, the elderly man alleged that he was assaulted with the intention of taking control of his property. He further claimed that although his son was present at home during the incident, he did not come forward to protect him.

As he spoke about the incident, the helplessness of the elderly man was evident. His only demand is that the incident be investigated impartially, the truth be brought to light, and justice be ensured. However, the veracity of the allegations and the exact circumstances behind the incident will become clear only after investigation. The incident has nevertheless raised a difficult question once again—can a dispute over property become so overpowering that even the safety and dignity of an elderly father are pushed aside?
