Rural Artisans Busy Crafting Goddess Durga Idols Ahead of Durga Puja.

Sabroom, Tripura, 13th of September, 2026 : As the countdown to Durga Puja begins, Bengali communities, with preparations gaining momentum every day. Local clubs and social organisations are busy building and decorating puja mandaps, giving different neighbourhoods a festive look.

Similarly, in rural Bengal, idol makers in the traditional artisan quarters are busy giving shape to Goddess Durga idols. The excitement among the craftsmen is clearly visible as they work tirelessly to complete the idols in time. With Maa Durga set to arrive at the puja mandaps of various local clubs and social organisations in just 34 days, preparations are already in full swing.

As the countdown to Durga Puja continues, artisans in Sabroom are busy giving the final touches to Goddess Durga idols. Sagar Debnath of Maa Archana Mrid Shilpalaya said the sharp rise in the prices of idol-making materials, including ornaments, clothes and weapons, has put considerable pressure on traditional craftsmen. According to him, the increasing expenses have made it difficult to earn a reasonable return despite the hard work involved.

Despite the increasing cost of materials, the artisans have remained focused on completing their idols. Meanwhile, with just 36 days remaining for Durga Puja, enthusiasm is growing across Sabroom, as local clubs and social organisations are working round the clock to prepare their puja pandals.
