Sonamura, Tripura, 13th of September, 2026 : Sonamura Police conducting a vehicle-checking operation near Sonamura Girls H.S. School on Sunday (13th September, 2026) stopped a motorcycle being driven by a minor school student. During the inquiry, officials learned that the student had taken the keys from his guardian and ridden the motorcycle.
The concerned motorcycle owner and the minor’s parents were brought in after the incident, and necessary legal action was taken. A Rs 25,000 fine was imposed under the Motor Vehicles Act for handing over the motorcycle to a minor and encouraging underage riding. The authorities once again appealed to the public to ensure that no minor is allowed to drive or ride any motor vehicle.
Inspector Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station requested to exercise responsibility and ensure that minors are not allowed to operate motorcycles, scooters, or other vehicles. Vehicle owners and guardians who permit minors to drive may be subjected to legal proceedings and hefty fines as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
