Bengaluru, Karnataka, 16th of September, 2026 : The University of Canberra (UC) Cricket Challenge has concluded its third edition in India, bringing together 24 Under-16 school teams and more than 300 young cricketers and support staff from across the country for a weeklong tournament that combines competitive cricket with opportunities to explore international education pathways.
Held from 30 August to 4 September 2026 at Jain International Residential School in Bengaluru, the 2026 edition marked the evolution of the UC Cricket Challenge into a T20-format tournament, providing school students with an expanded platform to compete, develop their skills and gain exposure to opportunities beyond the playing field.
Delivered in partnership with Cricket ACT, the governing body for cricket in the Australian Capital Territory, the UC Cricket Challenge is part of the strategic partnership established between UC and Cricket ACT in 2024. The partnership aims to support youth sport development, talent pathways and international engagement, while strengthening educational and cultural connections between Australia and India.
This year’s tournament featured 16 Under-16 boys’ teams and eight Under-16 girls’ teams, reflecting the growing participation of young women in school cricket and creating greater opportunities for students to develop their sporting ambitions.
The tournament brought together schools from Bengaluru and other parts of India, including Ajmer, Kolar, Coimbatore and Indore. With an estimated online audience of more than 30,000 viewers through live-streamed matches, the event extended its reach beyond the participating schools and highlighted the role of sport in creating connections between young people across India and Australia.
Commenting on the successful completion of the tournament, Professor The Honourable Bill Shorten, Vice-Chancellor and President of University of Canberra said, “The tournament reflects UC’s commitment to creating opportunities where young people can develop their sporting ambitions alongside their education. It provides further opportunities to strengthen our relationships with schools, communities and partners, and students are able to see how sport and education can open doors to a global future.”
Alongside the matches, the tournament featured coaching masterclasses, talent development activities and UC-hosted information sessions, giving participating students an opportunity to learn more about higher education in Australia. Through UC’s study and play approach, aspiring student-athletes can pursue a globally recognised qualification while continuing to develop their sporting ambitions in Canberra.

The next stage of the UC Cup will take place in Canberra from 30 September to 2 October 2026. The tournament will allow Indian teams to compete against Australian teams and experience Canberra’s sport and education ecosystem.
The UC Cricket Challenge forms part of UC’s broader engagement with India, which includes academic scholarships, Work Integrated Learning opportunities, and coach development programs. Together, these initiatives support UC’s efforts to build long-term education and sport connections between India and Australia and create opportunities for students to engage with the Australian higher education ecosystem.
The UC Cricket Challenge reinforces UC’s view that students should not have to choose between academic success and sporting ambition.
