Dharmanagar, Tripura, 17th of September, 2026 : Repeated power outages at Dharmanagar District Hospital, one of the important healthcare centres in North Tripura, have raised concerns among patients and their attendants. Following allegations of a prolonged power cut late Tuesday night, the hospital reportedly remained without electricity again for around 15–20 minutes during the daytime on Wednesday (16th September, 2026).

According to patients’ attendants, electricity went out for a considerable period late Tuesday night, plunging parts of the hospital premises into darkness. Many became anxious about whether the treatment and care of admitted patients would continue normally. The recurrence of a power outage during the daytime the following day has once again raised questions about the hospital’s power supply and backup arrangements.

The greatest concern has been regarding emergency services. Critical patients in the emergency department often require various electrically powered medical equipment. Family members have questioned how effectively emergency services can continue if the power supply is interrupted at such a crucial time.At an important institution like a hospital, a generator or other alternative power system is expected to come into operation immediately following a power failure. However, Wednesday’s incident has triggered renewed discussions over how effective the hospital’s backup system is and how quickly it can be activated.Family members claim that the power outages are not isolated incidents.

According to them, electricity cuts at different times of the day and night are creating uncertainty over healthcare services. The issue is particularly significant for children, elderly patients and those who are critically ill.Meanwhile, the exact reasons for Tuesday night’s prolonged outage and Wednesday’s 15–20-minute power interruption remain unclear. No official statement from the hospital authorities was available at the time of reporting. Questions remain among patients and their attendants over why the power supply is repeatedly being disrupted and how prepared the backup system is.

They have demanded that Dharmanagar District Hospital ensure a reliable 24-hour power supply along with an effective backup system. At a hospital, they point out, electricity is not merely a matter of lighting—it is directly linked to the continuity of medical services and patient safety.
