Dharmanagar,Tripura,26th of September, 2026 : A 21-member team of players from Tripura is set to travel to Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to participate in the national-level Thang-Ta competition. Selected under the initiative of the All Tripura Thang-Ta Association, the players will represent the state at the national stage.
According to Om Prakash Kalowar, Joint Secretary of the association, this year’s National Thang-Ta Championship will be held in Srinagar from the 28th to the 30th. Participants from different parts of the country are expected to take part in the event. Players from a total of 29 states are scheduled to participate in the competition.Among Tripura’s 21 participants, 13 are women and 8 are men.
After long-term training and preparation, the players are heading to Srinagar with the aim of showcasing their skills at the national level.The association stated that the competition will provide the state’s players with an opportunity not only to showcase their talent at the national level but also to pave the way for participation in major events in the future. Players who perform well in the national competition may get an opportunity to participate in the Khelo India competition to be held in Tamil Nadu later.
The All Tripura Thang-Ta Association considers the national competition an important platform for promoting the sport of Thang-Ta in Tripura. Association officials expressed hope that the participation of 21 players will further expand the recognition of Tripura’s Thang-Ta athletes at the national level.
