Agartala, Tripura, 26th of October, 2026 : Kojagari Lakshmi Puja was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm in households on Sunday and Monday (25th and 26th October, 2026). Following the celebrations of Vijayadashami and the immersion of the ten-armed Goddess Durga, devotees have come together to worship Maa Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity and good fortune. The occasion holds special significance for devotees, who seek the blessings of the Goddess for happiness, peace and prosperity in their lives.
According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Lakshmi is the consort of Lord Vishnu and is revered as the deity of wealth, abundance and fortune. Kojagari Lakshmi Puja is traditionally observed on the full moon night of the Hindu month of Ashwin, also known as Sharad Purnima. The festival is celebrated with particular enthusiasm in Bengal and Tripura, where it forms an important part of the region’s religious and cultural traditions.

On this auspicious occasion, households are cleaned and decorated, while devotees prepare special offerings, including flowers, fruits, sweets and other traditional items for the Goddess. Many families arrange puja rituals at home, decorate their entrances with traditional alpana designs and light lamps to create a sacred atmosphere. Devotees offer prayers with the hope of receiving the Goddess’s blessings for financial stability, family well-being and success.
Kojagari Lakshmi Puja is also associated with the traditional belief that Goddess Lakshmi blesses those who remain awake and devoted during the full moon night. The name “Kojagari” is commonly linked to the expression “Who is awake?” In keeping with this belief, many devotees stay awake late into the night, participating in prayers and religious observances.

The festival reflects the deep-rooted faith, cultural heritage and devotional spirit of the people. Coming shortly after Durga Puja, Kojagari Lakshmi Puja extends the festive atmosphere and brings families together through traditional customs and worship. Devotees are celebrating the occasion with zeal and enthusiasm, praying to Maa Mahalakshmi for peace, prosperity, happiness and well-being throughout the year.
