Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Highlights the Importance of Science for National Development.
In an opinion article titled “ESTIC 2026: Connecting Science with Aspirations of Viksit Bharat,” Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, emphasised that the true value of scientific discoveries lies in their ability to improve people’s lives.
Referring to the vision of former President and eminent scientist Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the Minister highlighted science as a fundamental driving force behind societal transformation.
He explained that scientific advancement must go beyond laboratory discoveries and academic achievements. Its ultimate purpose should be to address practical challenges, create opportunities, improve public welfare and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Dr. Singh observed that India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation requires advances in healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, industrial productivity, employment generation and technological self-reliance.
According to the Minister, scientific breakthroughs often require years of research, but translating them into technologies useful to society demands further testing, investment, engineering and collaboration.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the entire innovation process, from the initial research question to the development of technologies delivering tangible benefits.
ESTIC 2026 is expected to address these challenges by encouraging interaction among scientists, research institutions, universities, industries, startups, investors and government agencies.
The Minister also underlined the importance of nurturing young researchers and providing them with opportunities to learn from experienced scientists, present innovative ideas and develop solutions to real-world problems.
