Mumbai, Maharashtra, 31st of October, 2026 : A major initiative has been launched to connect Indian agriculture with modern technology, innovation and self-reliance. The inauguration of work on 12 horticulture clusters across the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi marks not just another milestone in agricultural development, but also a significant step towards transforming the economic landscape of farmers. As part of this ambitious initiative, Nashik in Maharashtra is set to emerge as a new hub for horticultural development. Prime Fresh Limited has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the Nashik Peri-Urban Vegetable Cluster Project.
With a proposed investment of approximately ₹124 crore, the project aims to take agriculture beyond traditional farming practices by integrating modern infrastructure and advanced technologies. Key facilities will include collection centres, integrated packhouses, 6,000 metric tonnes of cold storage capacity, 3,000 metric tonnes of frozen storage capacity, and modern processing facilities. Special emphasis will also be placed on digital traceability, quality control and farmer training.
The primary objective of this initiative is to empower approximately 11,000 farmers and promote modern agricultural practices across 10,000 hectares. Improved storage infrastructure and stronger market linkages are expected to reduce post-harvest losses while enabling farmers to secure better prices for their produce.
Commenting on the initiative, Hiren Gelani, Whole-Time Director of Prime Fresh Limited, said, “The Nashik Cluster Project is a significant milestone for us. Through modern technology, cold-chain infrastructure and direct market linkages, we are fully committed to empowering farmers and reducing post-harvest losses.”
The project is expected to give Nashik’s agricultural sector a new identity while creating better opportunities, stronger market access and the foundation for a more prosperous future for its farming community.
