Amarpur, Triipura, 1st of November 2026 : With the joint initiative of YTA (Young Tripuri Association) & BBBWS (Bubagra Bir Bikram Welfare Society) the 1st Isri Ama Sengthungma Mukumu Sal 2026 has been celebrated in Dasarath Mukumu Nok, Supari Bagan, Krishna Nagar in Agartala with great enthusiasm and dignity.
In presence of many distinguished dignitaries the programme chief guest Mrs. Pirsati Debbarma has inaugurated the programme. As per the report of YTA, queen Sengthungma is remembered in Tripuri tradition as an embodiment of courage, patriotism and leadership. During the reign of King Sengthungpha, when the kingdom faced an invasion by the forces of Gouda, the king had contemplated to surrender.
However, the queen boldly challenged his decision and inspired the royal army to defend their sovereignty. She personally motivated the warriors, helped to organize military preparation and led the troops into battle. Her determination transformed the moral of the kingdom and contributed to the defeat of the invading forces. Her legacy remains a powerful symbol of female courage, resistance and the enduring pride of the Tripuri people. Her name is also associated with the name Tripura Sundari in narratives attributed to the Rajmala, the historical chronicle of the kings of Tripura.
Through the celebration of Ama Isri Ama Shangthongma, the Young Tripuri Association seeks to revive historical consciousness, honour the courage of our forebears, and inspire present and future generation to cherish their heritage, uphold their dignity and remain steadfast in preserving their identity. Queen Sengthungma is not a figure of past but she is a symbol of courage, resistance, leadership and the enduring spirit of the Tripuri people.
Amidst the distinguished participants there were Armis Debbarma, president of YTA, Dr. Bijoy Debbarma, president of BBBWS, Miss. Hoba Debbarma, secretary of YTA, Maharani Hrangkhawl, asst. professor of GDC, Khumulwng and many others remained present in the celebration.
