In the greeting message, Hon’ble Governor of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu said, Makar Sankranti is a popular festival of Hindus across the country. This festival is also called Uttarayan. During this time the Sun moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn. This festival is dedicated to the Sun God and is celebrated as the beginning of a new day. It is also celebrated as a end to the winter season and a harvest festival.
The Governor of Tripura also said that Makar Sankranti is celebrated under different names in different States of the country. Such as Poush Sankranti, Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu, Peddha Panduga, Pongal, Makar Villaku, Ghughuti, Maghi Sangrand, Dahichura etc. and it is celebrated in different ways in India. May this festival bring joy, love, peace, prosperity, good health, brotherhood, friendship to the people of Tripura.
