National Seminar On Infrastructure Development In North East Region Of India At Pragna Bhavan, Agartala.

Agartala, Tripura, 18th of July 2025 : With the initiative of the Indian Building Congress National Seminar On Infrastructure Development In North East Region Of India organized in collaboration with the Indian Building Congress, Tripura Centre at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala on Friday (18th July, 2025). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Addressing at the National Seminar on Infrastructure Development in North East Region of India Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that Infrastructure development is essential for the overall progress of a state, including its economy. The current Government of the State is working to build modern and advanced infrastructure to provide better services to the people of the State. The Chief Minister said that improved infrastructure improves and accelerates the quality of life including business, trade, productivity, construction, health. Engineers have a major role to play in infrastructural development. It is their innovative thinking that makes it possible to build improved infrastructure. Such a discussion group will further enrich engineers. The Chief Minister said that such a discussion group will have a special impact in improving the overall quality of infrastructure in the states of the North Eastern region including Tripura. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed the states of the North Eastern region as Ashtalakshmi. The Act East Policy has further accelerated the pace of development in the North Eastern region.

Highlighting on the event, the Chief Minister remarked that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the present Government of the state is also working tirelessly for the overall development of the people. The Chief Minister said that more than Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated in this year’s State budget for infrastructure development. There are about 10,818.423 km of roads including main roads, rural roads, district roads under the State Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges). There are also 923 km of national highways in the State. Out of this, 509 km of roads have been upgraded to double lanes. There are also 3,939 bridges and culverts in the State. An initiative will be taken to build a ring road of about 49 km for Agartala city under the Bharatmala project. Initiatives will also be taken to connect all the railway stations in the state with national highways. As the states of the North Eastern region are located in earthquake-prone areas, modern technology is being used in all construction work. Keeping that in mind, high-rise office buildings are being constructed in Gorkhabasti. The Chief Minister also highlighted the rail, road connectivity, hydropower potential of the North Eastern region in his speech.

Chairman of the Indian Building Congress Shyamlal Bhowmik was also addressed at the event. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were, the President of the State Branch of the Indian Building Congress, Chinmoy Debnath,  Raj Chakraborty, O. P. Goyal, Chief Architect of the State PWD, Rajib Debbarma, Secretary of Indian Building Congress V.R. Bansal, senior official of the department and many other remained present at the event.
