Gandacherra, Tripura, 18th of July 2025 : The Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) is gaining significant visibility in recent times, thanks to its strategic planning and enhanced collaboration aimed at achieving the World Bank-set targets. As part of this momentum, a high-level team from the TRESP State Unit conducted a two-day monitoring visit to Gandacherra subdivision on July 17 and 18, focusing on grassroots engagement and progress evaluation.

The team was led by Ms. Sonali Laskar, Institution Building and Social Inclusion Specialist, along with Mr. Subrata Shib, Agriculture Specialist; Dr. Shibaprasad Majumdar, TSA Expert; and Mr. Abdur Rahman Choudhury, Training Specialist from SIPARD. They were accompanied by Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Dr. Kranthi Suman, and TSA Team Lead (ARDD), along with other project and departmental officials.
During their field visit, the team interacted with several Producer Groups (PGs) across Dumburnagar and Raishyabari RD Blocks. At Raishyabari, the team visited the “Gomlage Producer Group,” a ginger cultivation unit involving 20 members, primarily women from the Chakma community. The PG has undertaken ginger farming on approximately 20 kani of land. Notable members, including Pingla Chakma (Cashier) and Sumitra Chakma, discussed their ongoing business activities, progress, and challenges with the visiting team at Narikel Kunja.

At Dumburnagar, the team visited the “Haldi PG” in Chitradhari VC, where turmeric is being cultivated on 19 kani of land by a group of 16 members. Agriculture and Horticulture experts from the team provided technical guidance on plant nutrition and growth to support both ginger and turmeric-based PGs.
Additionally, Ms. Laskar and Mr. Choudhury visited the “Mwthangnai PG” in Uttar Gandacherra VC — a piggery-based group comprising 20 members, 10 of whom have already begun operations following the approved Business Plan. The team inspected the construction site and acknowledged the group’s rapid progress. Notably, the PGs in the region have collectively received ₹18 lakh as working capital and ₹1.5 lakh as establishment cost from TRESP, significantly accelerating their growth.

The unannounced visit by the TRESP State Team served as a major morale booster for the PG members. During discussions, key concerns such as vaccination and capacity-building training were raised. Officials from the Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD), present during the meetings, assured the timely organization of vaccination camps in the project areas.
Mr. Choudhury emphasized the importance of training quality and urged the veterinary officials to conduct monthly review meetings at the block level. He also highlighted the need for improved coordination to resolve the concerns of PG members efficiently. ARDD officials, in turn, sensitized the PGs on best practices and standard package of practices.

The team also visited Gandatuisa and held consultations with the BDO of Dumburnagar RD Block to review and monitor field-level activities. The visit concluded with the team’s return to Agartala on the night of July 18.
