Guwahati, Assam, 3rd of September, 2025 : The Coconut Development Board, Regional Office, Guwahati, under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, celebrated World Coconut Day 2025 at the Directorate of Horticulture & Food Processing, Khanapara on Tuesday (2nd September, 2025). The event was held under this year’s theme, “Uncovering Coconut’s Power, Inspiring Global Action.”

The event was graced by Dr. Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering Dr. Neog highlighted the role of quality planting materials in coconut cultivation and stressed the adoption of scientific farming practices to enhance productivity, ensure crop sustainability, and boost farmer incomes.
Following the inaugural session, a technical session was conducted where experts and stakeholders came together to discuss various aspects of coconut cultivation and development, particularly focusing on its potential in North Eastern India. Key insights were shared by Dr. Himadri Shekhar Datta, Associate Professor, College of Horticulture and FSR, AAU, Nalbari, and Dr. Sarat Saikia, Principal Scientist, AAU-HRS, Kahikuchi, who emphasized region-specific strategies and opportunities for coconut-based enterprise development.
The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Nripen Das, Director of Horticulture & Food Processing, Government of Assam; Shri Loken Das, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Guwahati; Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-ATARI Zone-VI; Dr. Mridul Deka, Associate Dean, College of Horticulture & FSR, Assam Agricultural University; and Dr. Rajat Kumar Pal, Director, Coconut Development Board, Regional Office, Guwahati.

As part of the celebrations, an exhibition showcasing coconut-based handicrafts and food products was organized, featuring innovative work by entrepreneurs supported by the Coconut Development Board. The exhibition showcased the diverse potential of coconut in value addition, livelihood generation, and entrepreneurship development.
