Where Is Dharmanagar’s Development? Congress Raises Explosive Questions Over MLA’s Claims.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 22nd of September, 2026 : Following MLA Jhar Chakraborty’s recent press conference on the development of Dharmanagar, the Dharmanagar District Congress held a counter press conference, challenging the ruling party’s claims. Congress leaders alleged that although a series of announcements and assurances regarding development have been made, there is still considerable uncertainty over the actual progress of projects, quality of work, and deadlines. Their clear message was that the people of Dharmanagar want to see the results of development on the ground, not merely on paper.The press conference was held at the residence of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee member Kebal Kanti Nandi. Former District Congress president Digvijay Chakraborty, Mahila Congress leader Mansi Malakar, Block Congress president Sudip Kumar Das, District Congress members Dilip De, Imran Chowdhury, Pradesh Minority Congress vice-president Akram Chowdhury, and other party leaders were present.The Congress’s main question was: How much money has been allocated for the various development projects in Dharmanagar, how much has been spent, how far have the projects progressed, and when will they be completed? The party demanded that the administration publish complete, project-wise information to ensure transparency.

Congress leaders also raised concerns over the drinking water crisis. They demanded clarity on when the under-construction water treatment plant would become operational and how many households would receive regular water services.Questions were also raised regarding the proposed market building, including its cost, construction timeline, parking facilities, fire safety measures, and the rehabilitation of traders.

However, the sharpest criticism was directed at the poor condition of the roads. Congress alleged that temporary repairs on damaged roads cannot provide a permanent solution. They argued that merely inspecting roads before the Puja season cannot be considered sufficient action and demanded that a specific plan be made public, clearly stating which roads would be repaired and when.Congress leaders said they welcomed efforts to take forward incomplete projects from the previous administration. However, they argued that claiming political credit was not enough. The list of incomplete projects, their current status, and their expected completion dates should be made public, they demanded.

The Congress also alleged administrative failures concerning the city’s drainage system, street lighting, traffic congestion, cleanliness, and municipal services, and called for a long-term master plan for Dharmanagar.The Congress leadership delivered a strong message: “Development cannot be demonstrated through stories and promises; the work on the ground must provide the answer.”The central question raised by Congress remains: Where is the development that the citizens of Dharmanagar are supposed to be seeing in reality?
