Agartala, Tripura, 21st of November, 2025 : Fish farming is a lucrative vocation. That is why the Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das called upon all to achieve self-sufficiency by adopting fish farming in scientific method. He was speaking at the Bukhurui community hall in Jampuijala subdivision on Thursday (20th November, 2025) after inaugurating a Knowledge Centre of the fisheries department. He said, Tripura has high demand for fish, as around 98 per cent population eat fish. But due to the remaining gap in demand and supply in the state, a portion of it, is imported from outside. He said, the fisheries department has taken a a number of measures to increase fish production in the state. To encourage the fish farmers of the state, an annual financial assistance of Rs. 6000 is being given to each fish farmer from the department. The government is also helping them with reclamation and creation of water bodies under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and Mukhyamantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Many self-help groups and individuals have become self-reliant through fish farming.

The welcome address was delivered by the director of fisheries department Santosh Das. Jampuijala BAC Chairman Birendra Kishore Debbarma presided over the programme. Sabhadhipati of Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Supriya Das Datta, MLA Biswajit Kalai, Vice-Chairman of the BAC Niranjan Kalai, secretary of the department Deepa D. Nair also graced the event as a guests. An amount of Rs. 52.65 lakh has been spent in construction of the Fisheries Knowledge Centre.
