Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of July 2026 : A pall of grief has descended over Dharmanagar in North Tripura following the tragic drowning of a young man in the Juri River. The deceased has been identified as Shibam Debnath (21), a resident of Mahadev Road, Padmapur, under Ward No. 20 of Dharmanagar Municipal Council.

According to local sources, Shibam had gone to the bank of the Juri River on Tuesday morning, as he reportedly did on a regular basis. Family members stated that he had been suffering from epilepsy for a long time. It is believed that he suddenly experienced an epileptic seizure while standing near the riverbank, lost his balance, fell into the river, and drowned.
After receiving information about the incident, local residents immediately launched a rescue effort and informed the Fire and Emergency Services. Fire service personnel, with the assistance of locals, recovered Shibam from the river. He was rushed to Dharmanagar District Hospital in critical condition, where the attending doctors declared him dead after examination.The sudden tragedy has left the Debnath family devastated. The atmosphere at the hospital turned emotional as grieving relatives broke down in tears.
Local residents also expressed profound sorrow over the untimely death of the young man.Residents of the area stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of people living with epilepsy. They noted that individuals with the condition should avoid visiting rivers, ponds, or other hazardous places alone, and that increased family supervision and public awareness could help prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
