The All India Kisan Sabha delegation comprising of its Vice President Amra Ram, Member of Parliament , Finance Secretary P Krishnaprasad, and Joint Secretary and State Secretary Pabitra Kar, visited today villages Nalchar, Sonamura, Bejimara and Belonia and met the victim families of the devastating flood and landslides.
The death toll is 32and loss of crops and livestock has been widespread across the State. As per the preliminary estimatimes by the State Government, the loss suffered to economy will be Rs.15000/ crore. It seems after physical verification it may go above that.
This is the everlargest natural calamity in the post independence period in Tripura. 75 percent of population dependent on agriculture and allied sector including fisheries. The farmers have lost allmost all they invested in cultivation and unable to pay back their loan and facing severe crisis of income generation. Thousands of houses collapsed beyond repair.
Amraram received many memorandum from the villagers and they have complained no revenue officials have visited villages and ensured any assesment of the loss. He promised to take up the severe devastation to the Union Government and the State Government and raise in the Parliament.
The AIKS delegation strongly demanded the Chief Minister Manik Saha and the State Government to demand the Union Government to declare the Flood and landslides in Tripura as National Calamity.
The State Government shall immediatly ensure physical verification of the fields and houses and prepare the actual loss and list the loss of crops, livestocks and fisheries, houses and buildings.
AIKS demand Union Government to provide adequate compensation to support the State from the National Disaster Management Fund. Union and State Government provide Rs.1 crore each to the families of the deceased.
Debts of all the flood affected farmers must be waived and fresh credit provided without interest to restart cultivation.
Under MNREGS, provide 200 days of work and Rs. 600 as daily wage to all the families demanding job.
