Dharmanagar, Tripura, 26th of April 2026 : The Panchayat authorities of West Tilthai Gram Panchayat, under the Jubarajnagar Assembly constituency in Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura district, have dismissed allegations of corruption surrounding a drain construction project as completely baseless and misleading.

According to Panchayat sources, the construction of the drain—from the residence of Amar Nath to that of Churamoni Nath—was completed in phases and was not a one-time project. The work was carried out through multiple stages of renovation and expansion, which is why the total expenditure and labour days have been shown cumulatively on the project signboard. The Panchayat has also refuted claims that “no labourers worked for 10 years,” calling the allegation entirely false. Janardan Debnath, Deputy Pradhan of West Tilthai Panchayat, stated that under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), local workers have been regularly employed, and proper records have been maintained. He added that all relevant documents can be made public if required.

Namitarani Nath, the mate in charge of the project, said that certain individuals or groups are deliberately spreading misinformation to create confusion among the public. “All expenditures and work have been carried out in accordance with government norms. The matter has already been reviewed, and no major irregularities have been found,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Panchayat officials hinted that there may be political motives behind the public criticism. They alleged that attempts are being made to undermine development work and erode public trust. However, the Panchayat has assured that, in the interest of transparency, an impartial investigation may be conducted again if necessary, so that the facts can come to light and confusion can be cleared.A section of local residents also supported the Panchayat’s claim, stating that the drain work was carried out at different times and has benefited the community. Therefore, calling the entire project “only on paper” does not reflect the ground reality, they said.Overall, the controversy surrounding the drain construction is now under administrative observation. Amid allegations and counterclaims, a transparent inquiry is seen as the only way to establish the truth, according to informed observers.
