Sabroom, 10th of February, 2025 : Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Merit Scholarships is a state government scheme. Under this scheme, Scheduled Caste students who score 60 percent or more marks in the examinations of classes VI to VIII, IX and Secondary and Higher Secondary levels are provided with assistance of Rs. 400, Rs. 700 and Rs. 1500 at Secondary and Higher Secondary levels respectively. Shribash Bhowmik, the Upper Division Clerk of Harina Higher Secondary School, in Sabroom Subdivision, a clerk tried to embezzle the Merit Scholarships of students in the state government scheme by including the name of his daughter, who was studying in another school in Agartala, in the merit list.
But as soon as the merit list was published, the school teachers noticed the name of a girl of class XI and her father’s name was Shribash Bhowmik. But there was no girl of this name in class XI in this school. Later, the teachers came to know that the name of a daughter of the school clerk (UDC) Shribash Bhowmik was in the merit list but she was not a student of this school. This UDC clerk (UDC) Shribash Bhowmik used to manage all the files related to the stipend of the students at Harina Higher Secondary School and using this opportunity, he created a blueprint to embezzle the money of the merit scholarships of the students.
