Chennai, 27th of February, 2026 : Today marked an extraordinary demonstration of coordinated medical excellence and humanitarian generosity, as two separate organ transfers were successfully facilitated, giving a renewed lease of life to three patients.
Green Corridor from Trichy to Chennai: Lungs Transported with the support of Tamil Nadu Police
Earlier today, lungs were transported from Trichy to Chennai through a specially coordinated green corridor. The seamless movement across districts was made possible through the exceptional support of the Tamil Nadu Police, whose meticulous planning and traffic management ensured timely and safe transport of the organs for transplantation at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.

In another remarkable effort, the heart and lungs of a 17-year-old boy were retrieved from Government Rajaji Hospital following the noble decision of his family to donate his organs. The organs were transported from Madurai Airport to Chennai, ensuring timely allocation and transplantation.
Notably, this mission marked a landmark moment (first time), with Chennai Metro Rail Limited deploying a dedicated train for organ transfer from Chennai International Airport to DMS Metro Station, enabling seamless transit across the city and ensuring the organs reached Apollo Hospitals in record time.
Today, these donated organs have given a new lease of life to three patients – a 69-year-old who received a single lung transplant, a 34-year-old who underwent a bilateral lung transplant, and a 43-year-old who received a life-saving heart transplant.
This life-saving mission was made possible through coordinated efforts of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital – Trichy, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, TRANSTAN (Tamil Nadu Network for Organ Sharing), Madurai Airport Authorities, Chennai International Airport Authorities, Chennai Metro Rail Limited, Greater Chennai Traffic Police, Tamil Nadu Police, and the transplant team at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. Their exemplary coordination ensured minimal transit time and upheld the highest standards of emergency response.
