Mumbai, Maharashtra, 17th of July, 2026 : Producer Ashwin Varde has strongly refuted Paresh Rawal’s recent claims about the making of OMG 2, calling the actor’s allegations “shocking, untrue and unsubstantiated.” In a detailed statement, Varde revealed that director Amit Rai had originally developed the script after discussions with Rawal, who allegedly believed he owned the intellectual property (IP) of the OMG franchise. However, Varde said he was aware that the rights belonged to Akshay Kumar and insisted the project could not move forward without his approval.
According to Varde, Rawal wanted to make a film with a similar narrative under a different title while keeping Akshay Kumar away from the project. He claimed several actors rejected the script because they recognized it as OMG and advised Rawal to obtain Akshay’s consent. To safeguard the story, Wakaoo Films acquired Amit Rai’s script and later presented it to Akshay Kumar, leading to the official development of OMG 2.
Varde also clarified that Rawal was approached only as an actor and was even offered the role in the film, but declined despite efforts by both Varde and Akshay Kumar to convince him. He maintained that Rawal received producer credit and payment, while asserting that no one cheated the veteran actor, adding, “The only thing we are guilty of is stopping him from doing the same.”
