Assembly Budget 2025-26, 4th Day : State Government Purchased 2.25 Lakh Metric Tonnes Of Paddy From Farmers : Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

Agartala, Tripura, 26th of March 2025 : Since 2018, the State Government has purchased 2.25 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from farmers and paid Rs 445 crore to them as support price. This information was given by Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury in response to a question from MLA Dipankar Sen in the Assembly Budget Session 2025-26 on the 4th day at Tripura Legislative Assembly, Agartala, Tripura.

The Food Minister said that the State Government has started the process of purchasing paddy directly from farmers at Government support price since 2018 for the financial development of farmers. Presently, paddy is being purchased from farmers at the support price fixed by the Central Government in two seasons (Rabi and Kharif) in a year under the joint initiative of the State Government’s Food, Consumer Affairs Department and the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department. In the last Rabi season, 17 thousand metric tons of paddy were purchased from farmers.

“The BJP Government is in the state, paddy will be purchased from farmers at subsidized prices. This will strengthen the financial base of the farmers. In July this year, paddy will be purchased from farmers at government subsidized prices during the Rabi season.”, the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, minister Sushanta Chowdhury also added.
