Agartala, Tripura, 10th of February, 2025 : As a part of the ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’ (BRM 2025), a five day theatre festival will begin at Agartala from tomorrow February 11, wherein five plays will be staged. The plays include ‘Titar Bitar’, ‘Tichi Tita Toto Turu’, ‘Wo Kagaz Ki Kashti, Wo Barish Ka Pani’, ‘Tani La Tanyo’, and ‘Super Sanskar’. The festival to be continued till 15th February will be held at the Ananda Auditorium of the Nazrul Kalakshetra Campus in Agartala.
The world’s largest theatre festival, ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’ (BRM 2025), organized by the National School of Drama (NSD), is taking place on an even larger scale this year. The festival will run from January 28 to February 16, 2025, and will feature over 200 theatre productions from India and 9 other countries. This 20-day extravaganza is named ‘Bharangam.’ For the first time, the festival will also be held internationally, with events in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Colombo, Sri Lanka. The theme of this year’s festival is “One Expression, Supreme Creation,” which carries the message of unity in creative expression.
The festival will kick off in the capital, Delhi, and additional cities participating in the festival include Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bathinda, Bengaluru, Goa, Gorakhpur, Jaipur, Khairagarh, Ranchi, and Bhopal. This year’s special highlight is the international expansion of the festival. For the first time, BRM will be showcased outside of India, with performances in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Colombo, Sri Lanka. International theatre groups from Russia, Italy, Germany, Norway, Czech Republic, Nepal, Taiwan, Spain, and Sri Lanka will be participating.
Furthermore, BRM 2025 includes some special initiatives. To mark the 25th anniversary of the festival, efforts are being made to enter the Guinness World Records. As part of the ‘Vishwa Jan Rang’ initiative, there are plans to spread theatre across every continent. Additionally, the festival will focus on involving marginalized and underprivileged communities in theatre, including the Santhal tribes (to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda), sex workers, transgender persons, senior citizens, and children.
This year, NSD alumnus and popular Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been named the ‘Rang Doot’ (Festival Ambassador). For theatre enthusiasts, Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2025 promises to be a historic event, creating a unique blend of Indian and international theatrical practices.
