Book Fair 2023 : Inauguration Of 41st Agartala Book Fair-2023.

With the initiative of Information & Cultural Affairs Department Government of Tripura 41st Agartala Book Fair-2023 has been organized at the International Fair Ground, Hapania on Friday (24th March, 2023). In the presence of dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has inaugurated the 41st Agartala Book Fair-2023 by lighting the lamp.   

“When you read a book, that reading is embedded in your mind and brain. There is no substitute for books. Books is very necessary for the expansion of thinking”, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said at the inaugural ceremony of the 41st Agartala Book Fair. The Chief Minister also added the reading rate among students has decreased in the digital age. If you don’t read a book, you feel a lack of well-thought-out consciousness in your body. The Chief Minister urged the students to buy other books besides textbooks at the book fair.

In the opening ceremony of the book fair, the Chief Minister along with other guests unveiled the book fair number in Bengali and Kokborok, the theme song of the book fair, souvenir Gomati. The theme for Book Fair 2023 is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. 176 stalls will be opened book fair. Among these are the stalls of minority languages, 82 stalls of State publishing houses, outside publishers and booksellers have 79 stalls. The number of stalls of publishers and booksellers of Bangladesh is 15. Apart from publishers and booksellers from Tripura, publishers and booksellers from Kolkata, Silchar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana will have stalls at the book fair.

17 awards will be given in various subjects at the book fair. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Solidarity Award for Outstanding Contribution in Social Field will be presented. Dhirendra Krishna Memorial Award, Salil Krishna Memorial Award, Sachin Debbarman Memorial Award, Kalikingkar Debbarman Memorial Award, for outstanding contribution to painting, Bengali and Kokborok literature, music, classical music, short stories published in Bengali and Kokborok, drama, and folk culture respectively. Bhishmadev Memorial Award and Lalan Award will be presented.

The 13-day book fair March 24 & continue till April 5, 2023. Book fair will be open daily from 2.30 pm to 9 pm and holidays open from 2 pm to 9 pm. 10 percent discount will be given by the book sellers for the buyers at the book fair. Cultural programs organized daily and vehicles arranged from certain places to the fair premises as in other years for traveling the book fair.

Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, Secretary ICA, Department delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLA Ram Prasad Paul, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar also spoke at the inauguration ceremony.

Director of ICA Department Ratan Biswas, Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder and other dignitaries were present at the inauguration ceremony.
