Book Fair 2024 : 42nd Agartala Book Fair 2024.

Agartala, 21st of February 2024 : With The Initiative of Information & Cultural Affairs Department Government of Tripura 42nd Agartala Book Fair 2024 has been organized at the International Fair Ground, Hapania on Wednesday (21st February, 2024). In the presence of dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has inaugurated the 42nd Agartala Book Fair 2024 by lighting the lamp.  

“The feeling that comes from books cannot be found in any other medium. Therefore, the importance of books is immense even in the current technology era.” Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said at the inaugural ceremony of the 42nd Agartala Book Fair at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya stage at the International fair ground premises, Hapania.  In the event, the Chief Minister said that many things have changed with time. The craze for books may have waned somewhat. Modern technology can be one of the reasons for this. Recalling his childhood memories, the Chief Minister said that the long queues forming in front of Birchandra State Central Library to read books. Emphasizing on giving more books as gifts, the Chief Minister said that publishers and writers will be encouraged and the practice of reading books will speed up. He expressed hope that the book fair will encourage people to read books more.

The 13-day book fair February 21st & continue till March 5, 2024. The theme for this year’s 42nd Agartala Book Fair-2024 is “Bhavya Bharat”. Book fair will be open daily from 2.30 pm to 9 pm and holidays open from 2 pm to 9 pm. Cultural programs have been organized daily to the fair premises as in other years.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Book Fair, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar said that 42nd Agartala Book Fair will be crowded with book lovers. In the speech of the special guest, prominent writer and researcher of Bangladesh Subhash Singh Roy said that Bangladesh are grateful for Indian support and sacrifices. The way Agartala helped the people of Bangladesh during the liberation war has gone down in history.

Secretary of Information and Culture Department Dr. P. K. Chakraborty delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. He said 180 stalls were opened in the 41st Book fair. 191 stalls have been opened in this fair. 110 stalls from Tripura, there are 66 stalls from West Bengal, 6 stalls from Assam, 2 stalls from Uttar Pradesh and 2 stalls from Delhi. There are 5 stalls in the come from Bangladesh.

Guest of honor at the inaugural ceremony of Book Fair Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ram Prasad Pal, Hon’ble Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly and MLA Kalyani Roy, Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, Bangladesh High Commission, Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad, and many other dignitaries were present in the inauguration ceremony.  In the inaugural ceremony of the 42nd Agartala Book Fair, the Chief Minister along with other guests unveiled the book souvenir Gomati.
