Agartala, Tripura, 13th of June, 2025 : With the initiative of ILS Hospital inauguration ceremony of Cancer Care facility organized at ILS Hospital campus, Agartala, Tripura in collaboration with the International Oncology Care Institute (IOCI) on Friday (13th June, 2025). In the In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the advanced radiotherapy services for the treatment of cancer.

Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of New Cancer Care Facility Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the State has witnessed unprecedented progress in the health sector in the last 7 years. Along with various initiatives in the health sector, a 100-bed Regional Tertiary Eye Hospital will be set up in Agartala for eye treatment. Funds have also been allocated in the budget for this.The Chief Minister said that although cancer is a incurable disease, with the advancement of science, it is possible to prevent cancer through early diagnosis and timely treatment. The Chief Minister expressed the opinion that public awareness is one of the ways to deal with cancer. Smoking, tobacco and drug use are one of the causes of cancer. The Chief Minister said that many people apply for medical assistance every week under the “Mukhyamantri Samipeshu” program.

“It has been observed that most of the cancer patients tend to go to private hospitals in Mumbai for treatment outside the state. In that case, the State Government has taken necessary steps to identify a place in Mumbai for the convenience of the patients and their associates. However, now the medical services of all types of diseases have become easier in the State. the establishment of a cancer care center at ILS Hospital under private initiative will further facilitate the access to cancer treatment in the State. ILS Hospital is also playing an important role in providing medical services and employment to of the state.” Chief Minister added.
The Chief Minister said that the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre in the state, under Government management, is playing an important role in the treatment of cancer patients. After the formation of the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, funds were allocated for this hospital. At a cost of Rs 55 crore, state-of-the-art medical equipment like Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging scans, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and CT scans (Computed Tomography) etc. was installed in this hospital. Radiotherapy services are also being provided. Various initiatives have been taken in capacity building for state-of-the-art treatment.

Highlighting the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Saha remarked, the 9 types of modern medical services including Radiation Oncology, Pediatric Surgical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre. The Chief Minister said that about 400 students have the opportunity to study in the MBBS course in the state. The Chief Minister said that recently a 4-member delegation of doctors led by AIIMS Director Prof (Dr) M Srinivas visited the state. The government is giving importance to opening a hospital management department in the state on the advice of the delegation. Two kidney transplants have been successfully performed at AGMC and GB Hospital. Initiatives are also being taken for liver transplants. Investors from outside the state are expressing interest in investing in the health sector.

Founder and Managing Director of ILS Hospitals Om Tantia delivered a welcome address at the inaugural session of New Cancer Care Facility. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries participants there were Dr. Madhur Garg, Founder of International Oncology Care Institute (IOCI) and may other distinguished dignitaries were present in the inauguration ceremony today. The program concluded with a vote of thanks Dr. Pramod Kumar Sharma, Executive Director of International Oncology Care Institute (IOCI).
