Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Unveils 9 Ft Tall Statue Of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya On The Premises Of BBM College.

Agartala, Tripura, 19th of August, 2025 : Hon’ble Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha unveiled a 9 ft tall statue of Maharaja Bir bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur on the Premises of Bir Bikram Memorial College on Angust 19, at 4 pai. Along with Chief Minister Prof. Saha, the regal and sublime moment of unveiling of the statue was graced by the presence of Minister of Higher Education Sri Kishore Barman, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Sri Rajib Bhattacharjee, Vice-Chancellor, MBB University Dr. Bibhas Deb, Director of Higher Education Sri Animesh Debbarma and other dignitaries

The statue unveiling event has been the central attraction of the “Five-Day Long Golden Jubilee Celebration” programme (18-22 August, 2025) proudly hosted by stakeholders of Bir Bikram Memorial College (Erstwhile B.B. Evening College)

Following the path of visionary legacy of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya the present Bir Bikram Memorial College began its journey as Bir Bikram Evening College, operating under Calcutta University affiliation On 19 August 1969. On 26 December 2002, the college moved to College Tilla, occupying the building of the former Tripura University. It was then renamed Bir Bikram Memorial College, transitioning into a co-educational day college committed to serve the needs of the larger community.

With enduring spirit of pride and a deep sense of belongingness, the various stakeholders like students, (both present and alumnus), teachers, (both current and the esteemed retired professors), non-teaching staff, patrons, local guardians and innumerable well wishers have witnessed the historical moment as the colossal statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram was unveiled.

The unveiling ceremony was followed by a brief programme at the beginning of which Dr. Rupak Saha, the convener of the Golden Jubilee and Statue Installation Committee, gave a humble and hearty welcome to the dignitaries and the audiences. Dr. Das also briefly described this moment as a candid tribute which was necessary for marking the achievement of a distinct identity by this institution and for the rejuvenation of aspirations.

Amidst the continuous and overflowing streams of emotions of nostalgia, and excitements the audience listened to the speakers all of whom unequivocally lauded the initiative and arrangements of the Golden Jubilee Celebration programme. Besides the history of glorious journey of this College, students of present generation also require to acquire some special skills for jobs, said Mr. Animesh Debbarma, Director, Higher Education, Govt. of Tripura.

Dr. Bibhas Deb, Vice-Chancellor, MIIB University expressed his solidanty with BBM College and said that he has become a part of the pride of this institution Rooted in the past, the institution must reach a brighter future producing equipped generabons of students

After unveiling of Didheeti, the souvenir of BBM College on the eve of Golden Jubilee Celebration and the Annual Report of Placement Cell by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Sri Kishore Barman, Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Tripura addressed the gathering. While paying tribute to Maharaja Bir Bikram Sri Barman affirmed, “The late Maharaja was a true visionary, an ardent social reformer and an adept administrator.” Sri Barman also elaborated some the late Maharaja’s contributions including His Highness’s role in the unification of Tripura with India.

“It’s a matter of great pleasure and pride to be a part of Golden Jubilee Celebration of BBM College”, said Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. Professor Saha touched upon the days of beginning of this College as Bir Bikram Memorial College and congratulated the various stakeholders of this college on this auspicious occasion. He also paid tribute to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya for the late Maharaja’s developmental works and good intentions Professor Saha emphasized, “The weapon to eradicate all kinds of darkness is Education and Tripura is in a covetable position in the field of educational infrastructure”. While making reference to the existing challenges, he also warned the young generation students regarding the fatal effects of drug addiction and gave a clarion call to the students to be inspired by the visionary qualities of Maharaja Bir Bikram.

Principal-in-Charge Smt. Mrinal Dasgupta, who presided over the Statue Installation Programme, extended her heartfelt thanks and gratitude towards all esteemed guests and audiences for joining this monumental event. She upheld the pride of this institution and also made reference to the growing demands of this College as an educational hub among the new generation students.

The whole programme marked a solemn and prestigious note befitting Golden Jubilee Celebration of BBM College and the auspicious Birth Anniversary of Mahataja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
