Chief Minister Of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha  Inaugurates Haora Riverfront Development Project.

Agartala, Tripura, 24th of September, 2026 : The Haora Riverfront Development Project, developed along the banks of the Haora River near Battala, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday (22nd September, 2026). Addressing at the inaugural programme, the Chief Minister said the government is working to transform Agartala into a more developed, green, clean, modern and liveable city. He said the newly developed riverfront marks another milestone in the development of modern Agartala. The riverbank, once used as a dumping ground for waste and garbage, has now been transformed into a clean, attractive and citizen-friendly public space, he said.

The Chief Minister said the Haora River has been closely associated with Agartala’s history, culture and civic life for generations. The riverfront has been planned to create a harmonious combination of nature, recreation, fitness, culture and civic life. He recalled that Agartala was selected among 100 cities under the Smart City Mission in 2015 and several initiatives have since been undertaken to improve the capital’s urban infrastructure. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for including Agartala under the Smart City Mission and for supporting the vision of modern urban development.

Before the inauguration, the Chief Minister inspected the newly developed riverfront and reviewed various infrastructure facilities, civic amenities, riverbank protection and beautification works. He was briefed by officials about the overall management and different aspects of the project. According to the Chief Minister, a nearly 1,700-metre stretch from Steel Bridge to Dashamighat has been developed as a modern riverfront. Modern technologies such as gabion walls, micro-piles, geotextiles and toe walls have been used for riverbank protection and stability. The project has been completed at an estimated cost of around Rs 96 crore and includes a five-year Annual Maintenance Contract.

The riverfront features walking paths, a cycling lane, viewing decks, an elevated walkway, an open gym, a yoga space and a zipline. Facilities including a playground for children, bird aviary, nature trail, food plaza and art and craft village have also been

developed. For security, CCTV surveillance has been installed throughout the area and will be monitored through the City Command and Control Centre. The riverfront will remain open to the public from morning until 9 pm every day.

The Chief Minister said conservation of the Haora River and its banks is one of the key aspects of the project. Along with addressing riverbank erosion and waterlogging, emphasis has also been placed on environmental protection and beautification of the city. He expressed hope that the riverfront would contribute to sports, health, recreation, social harmony and a healthy lifestyle among citizens. He also appealed to residents to keep the facility clean and reduce the use of plastic. The Chief Minister said collective cooperation is essential to achieve the goal of building a Shreshtha Bharat, Viksit Bharat and developed Tripura by 2047. He congratulated and thanked all workers, engineers, officials, employees and agencies associated with the project.

Speaking on the occasion, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said the Haora Riverfront is not merely a beautification project but an important initiative to conserve the Haora River and create a new public space for Agartala. He said the project was implemented at a cost of around Rs 96 crore with the cooperation of the Central and State governments under the supervision of Agartala Smart City Limited. He also highlighted the rehabilitation of 37 riverbank families at Radhanagar, including provisions for permanent houses, relocation expenses and livelihood support.

A documentary on the project was screened during the programme. The Chief Minister and other guests also visited a blood donation camp organised by workers associated with the project and encouraged the donors. Urban Development Department Secretary Dr. Milind Ramteke delivered the welcome address. MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, AMC Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, Chief Minister’s Secretary and other departments’ Secretary Kiran Gitte, AMC Commissioner Saju Vaheed A, Agartala Smart City Limited CEO G. Nayak and other officials were present at the programme.
