Agartala, Tripura, 3rd of October, 2026 : The College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra, Tripura, celebrated its 28th Foundation Day with a series of academic, institutional and alumni-focused programmes, reaffirming its commitment to fisheries education, research, innovation and human resource development in the Northeast India on Saturday (3rd October, 2026).
Kishor Barman, Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration (Political), Government of Tripura, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Techno India University, Tripura, and Mr. S. Prabhu, IFS, Special Secretary, Animal Resources Development Department, Government of Tripura, were the Guests of Honour, while Prof. Debashish Sen, Principal, College of Agriculture, Lembucherra, Tripura, attended as the Special Guest. Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, welcomed the dignitaries and participants and delivered the welcome address.

The celebration witnessed the inauguration of the Boys’ Hostel Building Extension, Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and Fish Seed Rearing Unit, along with the release of teaching manuals and technology leaflets. The programme also featured the distribution of trophies to the winners of Annual College Week–2026, recognizing achievements in literary, sports, cultural and overall activities, as well as the Student of the Year and Academic Excellence Awards. A major highlight was the felicitation of 39 alumni achievers during 2025-26, recognizing their contributions and professional accomplishments in different fields.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kishor Barman described the College as a unique institution for recognizing and reconnecting with its alumni and highlighted its potential as an education, skill and knowledge hub for Tripura. He emphasized the importance of fisheries in building Viksit Bharat and the strategic role of the Fisheries College in the development of Northeast India. He also stressed the importance of institution building, societal contribution of alumni, real-life problem-solving education, and an integrated ecosystem of knowledge, research, technology and innovation.

The Prof. J. R. Dhanze Memorial Awards were presented to the top two rank holders of the College in ICAR AIEEA (PG)–2026. The achievement of Mr. S. Dinesh Singh, who secured All India Rank (AIR) 1 in Fisheries Science in ICAR AIEEA (PG)–2026 at the National Level, was specially highlighted as a matter of immense pride for the institution. Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, expressed his sincere gratitude to all those who contributed to the successful organization of the Foundation Day programme and acknowledged the valuable support and guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University (Imphal).
The programme concluded with the formal Vote of Thanks by the Students Welfare Officer, Mr. M. Sanju Singh, followed by the National Song and National Anthem, marking the conclusion of a significant milestone in the College’s journey.
