Dharmanagar, Tripura, 23rd of June 2026 : The Yuvrajnagar Block Congress has raised serious concerns regarding the quality of food provided under the Mid-Day Meal scheme for school students. On Monday (22nd June, 2026), while submitting a deputation to the School Inspector regarding various issues and demands related to the Education Department, Congress workers noticed rice being transported in an e-rickshaw for use in the Mid-Day Meal program.

After inspecting the rice, they expressed strong dissatisfaction with its quality. According to Congress workers, the rice being supplied was of extremely poor quality, partially spoiled, and unfit for human consumption. They alleged that meals prepared from such rice are being served to young students, posing a serious risk to their health. Reacting sharply to the issue, Congress leaders stated, “Rice that is not even suitable as cattle feed is being served to children. This is not merely negligence; it reflects gross indifference toward children’s health and is indicative of corruption.”

They further pointed out that the objective of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme is to ensure proper nutrition for students and encourage school attendance. However, the supply of substandard food materials undermines these goals. The party demanded an immediate investigation into the matter and strict action against those responsible.

The Yuvrajnagar Block Congress urged the Education Department to regularly inspect the quality of food items used in the Mid-Day Meal scheme, ensure transparency in the procurement and distribution process, and guarantee the supply of nutritious and high-quality food to students.Parents and members of the public are now looking to the administration to verify the allegations and take appropriate action if necessary.
