Dharmanagar, Tripura, 4th of June 2026 : In a significant step toward promoting swimming training and water sports in North Tripura, the Dharmanagar Swimming Club was formally inaugurated on Wednesday. The club, approved by the Dharmanagar Municipal Council, was inaugurated by MLA Jahar Chakraborty.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the BBI Swimming Pool premises in Dharmanagar and was attended by representatives of various social and sports organizations, swimming coaches, parents, and a large number of sports enthusiasts. Speakers at the event emphasized that swimming is not only a sport but also an essential life-saving skill. Therefore, providing children and adolescents with opportunities to learn swimming from an early age is extremely important.
According to the club authorities, the new initiative aims to offer regular swimming training to children, teenagers, and interested adults. Training sessions will be conducted under the supervision of qualified coaches.The club also aims to nurture talented swimmers who can compete at district and state-level competitions in the future.Speaking at the event, MLA Jahar Chakraborty stated that the swimming club would play a vital role in strengthening sports infrastructure in Dharmanagar. He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage more young people to participate in sports and help develop new swimming talents in the region.
Local residents also welcomed the initiative, noting that there had long been a need for a well-organized swimming training center in Dharmanagar. They believe that the establishment of the new club will significantly fulfill that demand and contribute positively to the development of sports in the area.
