Mumbai, Maharashtra, 20th of September, 2026 : Technology, artificial intelligence (AI), automation and reliable data are ushering in a new era of transformation in India’s mining and metals sector. At FICCI’s conference on “Digitalisation, AI, Automation and Technology Integration in Mining and Metals,” experts said that the adoption of technology can make mining more transparent, safer, more sustainable and competitive.
Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra said, “Technology, AI and digitalisation can transform the mining sector by enabling better monitoring, transparent decision-making and responsible resource management.” He described data as a bridge of trust between industry and society.
Dinesh Mahur, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Defence Production, said, “Critical minerals and advanced materials are extremely important for strategic sectors such as electronics, energy, aerospace and defence.”
S.K. Rungta, Mentor, FICCI Non-Ferrous Metals Committee, linked predictive maintenance, drones, autonomous equipment and AI-based solutions with the future of competitiveness in the mining sector.
Meanwhile, Dr. Pankaj Satija emphasised, “The objective should not be merely to adopt more technology, but to use technology to solve real-world problems and achieve measurable outcomes.”
The conference brought together industry leaders, government representatives, startups and technology experts to discuss the future of digital mining and the role of emerging technologies in strengthening India’s mining and metals ecosystem.
