Dharmanagar, Tripura, 6th of July 2026 : A grand discussion meeting and cultural programme was organised in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, on Monday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a renowned educationist.The event was held at the Vivekananda Sardha Shatabarshiki Bhavan and witnessed the participation of distinguished personalities, public representatives, students from various schools, and a large number of local residents.The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, the School Education Department, and the Dharmanagar Municipal Council.
Its primary objective was to introduce the younger generation to Dr. Mukherjee ‘s life and ideals, his contributions to education, his vision of national unity and patriotism, and his thoughts on nation-building.The chief guest at the event was MLA Jahar Chakraborty. Among the other dignitaries present were Ripon Chakma, Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department; MLA Yadav Lal Debnath; former MLA Malina Debnath; Chairperson of the Dharmanagar Municipal Council Mitali Das Sen; noted cultural personality Dipal Das; and several other eminent personalities from the district.The programme began with floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the invited guests.During the discussion session, the speakers highlighted various aspects of Dr. Mukherjee ‘s illustrious life and his enduring contributions to education, culture, and national consciousness.
