Fake Currency Seized at Churaibari, Police Launch Probe.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 29th of January, 2026 : Panic spread in the Churaibari Gate area of North Tripura district after a large quantity of fake currency notes was recovered on Thursday morning.

According to police sources, counterfeit notes worth approximately ₹25,000 were seized from in front of a local shop owned by Nazrul Haque. All the recovered notes were in ₹200 denomination. Upon receiving information, personnel from Churaibari Police Station rushed to the spot and confiscated the fake currency. Preliminary investigation revealed that the notes were kept inside a packet lying in front of the shop. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Shop owner Nazrul Haque denied any involvement and claimed that the fake notes might have been deliberately placed there to frame him. He has demanded a fair and thorough investigation into the matter.Police officials stated that initially two plainclothes policemen were present at the spot.

Later, considering the seriousness of the case, a formal investigation was initiated by Churaibari Police Station. The seized notes have been sent for examination, and nearby CCTV footage is being scrutinized. Police sources further informed that all possible angles are being examined to uncover the truth. Investigators are also probing whether any organized counterfeit currency racket is involved. The incident has triggered widespread concern and tension among local residents.
