Farmers Are The Foundation Of Our Food Security: Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Agartala, Tripura, 5th of August, 2026 : Quality seeds and the use of modern scientific methods in paddy cultivation can help farmers achieve higher yields and greater income. Farmers are the backbone of our food security, and it is everyone’s responsibility to respect their hard work and extend all possible support to them, said Hon’ble Power, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath. The Minister was speaking on Tuesday (4th August, 2026) as the chief guest at an Aman paddy transplantation programme organized by the Mohanpur Agriculture Sub-Divisional Office under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare at Gajaria Gram Panchayat under Mohanpur RD Block.

He said that the scent of soil, mud-covered feet, and the genuine smile of farmers represent the essence of rural life. From birth, people remain closely connected with agriculture. Nature and human life are inseparable, and trees sustain life by providing oxygen. Therefore, protecting both agriculture and the environment is crucial for the future. The Minister stated that both the Central and State Governments are implementing various welfare and development programmes for farmers. The Prime Minister has placed special emphasis on providing all possible assistance to farmers. The State Government is also undertaking several initiatives to increase farmers’ income, improve productivity, and promote modern agricultural technologies.

Under the MICMP scheme, farmers are being encouraged to cultivate paddy in SIR method. Farmers adopting this method receive financial assistance of 1,244 per kani from the State Government. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that nearty 3,500 farmers are currently cultivating paddy through the SIR method on about 4,200 kani land in the Mohanpur agricultural subdivision, contributing significantly to increased agricultural production. He urged farmers to complete agricultural registration and adopt scientific farming practices based on the guidance of agricultural scientists and experts. According to him, the use of modern technology and improved farm management practices will increase production, reduce costs, and enhance farmers’ earnings. He also advised farmers not to leave land fallow and to cultivate crops suitable for their land.
